Jubei Chan 2 continues much in the same vein as the first series. Jiyu Nanohana is an ordinary junior high girl who happens to be not so ordinary. She is the resurrected soul of none other than the famous samurai Yagyu Jubei...or is she?
When she dons the lovely eye patch the inner spirit of the lethal samurai warrior comes out...but there is another. A blonde girl claims she is the one and true resurrection of the great swordsman. And she is willing to fight Jiyu to prove it! With a lovely eye patch of her own, this mysterious new-comer enters with secrets and a desire to prove she is the rightful successor, no matter who gets in the way. In this new series, Jiyu must not only face this new enemy but the Siberia Clan as well as they have sent an assassin after her. As if that weren't enough, she must also battle her own reluctance to fight. Will she don the lovely eye patch again? Watch the new series to find out!
It is a nice, straight-forward anime that stays in the same tone and art style of the first series. The animation has a simplistic line work that's easy on the eyes. Most of the same characters return in this second series and the storytelling is very similar in its lighthearted tone. There is a lot of humour and even the combat scenes aren't too intense. Although this series is rated 13 and up for its violence, I would urge parents to view it and make their own decision as it seems like an anime that would do well for younger viewers. The violence is generally light and it is a good hearted anime with nothing too intricate in plot or character development. That being said, the anime does suffer from a slow start. It only really begins to pick up by the third episode. If the story continues to gain momentum, this four volume series could be a decent anime, particularly for younger viewers. I give it 6.5/10 kendo swords overall.
